The Olde Bell in Berkshire

Casual dining at The Olde Bell Inn

I’m constantly on the lookout for beautiful and cosy retreats for a weekend away from London and only 30 minutes from the city along the Thames, we found that The Olde Bell was a really stylish country inn.

An original coaching inn dating back to 1135 (!!) The Olde Bell is full of character without being ‘quaint’ and not a floral drape in sight. Instead it is cool and rustic. It’s been cleverly designed with a stripped-back look… exposed brick walls and beams and yet a simplistic and modern-chic style. The rustic and original features give you a deep sense of its history. I loved the retro touches in our room, like the vintage-style Roberts radio and plush wool blankets.

My boyfriend and I are real foodies and the inn’s kitchen didn’t disappoint. The food in the restaurant is contemporary British with a seasonal menu – everything was outstanding. I preferred however the more casual bar area with its antique looking chairs, solid oak benches with big cosy rugs and an ancient fireplace. It was the perfect spot to unwind with a book, a glass of wine and tuck into a delicious black pudding scotch egg on a Friday night just after work. You’ll feel miles away!
